Just the other day, Lars Lewerenz, father of the ever-
growing Audiolith family, asked me to say a few words about
“Just Fu**in Dance it”, the new EP from Atari & Rampue. Of
course, that’s a matter of honour for me, especially as I’m
living off telling people my true opinion.
With “My name is Ira”, “Space Rocket” and “Moneymaker”,
Ira & Rampue have already proven that they are Champions
League, the Next Big Thing, Superstars, world-class or
whatever you want to call it. Now here’s the obligatory but
unnerdy list of musical references. Take the best, i.e. the
universal things, from for example Laura Branigan, Lady
Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Pink, Björk, Missy Elliot und the
Pet Shop Boys and combine it with seasoned New Rave
socialization. Now you’ll have an idea of the Club Dance
Disco Electro Euro Euphoric Future Pop that is Atari &
Rampue. You don’t believe it? Suspecting exaggeration?
Mindless promotional drivel? Listen to the title track “Dance
in the rain” and then tell me what you felt.
If we are honest we have all experienced the following.
We are sitting alone in the car and turn on an otherwise
pretty dubious radio station just to quickly sweeten our day
with this very special kind of music. Or right in the morning
when you get up and browse through your music collection
in order to dope yourself with life-affirming music for your
exhausting day. Or that moment when you are in a club
and suddenly the sun seems to rise. Finally, love is on the
guest list again, hugging everybody who wants it. People
making out everywhere. Those are the moments that even
make the DJ euphoric. People asking “What kind of wicked
song is this!?” will make him nod sympathetically because
a good DJ knows this: People need hymns! Exactly! Songs
everybody can sing and dance along to and that will make
you see that everything is going to be fine! Always! Don’t let
anything get you down! You are doing everything just right!
“Dance in the Rain” is a pop hymn just like this. Turn it on if
you are feeling down and you will feel better. If that’s not the
case you should probably consider talking to a doctor.
